The Most Common Cat Diseases and The Easy Ways to Prevent Them

It is always disturbing to see your furry friend, whom you love the most, is feeling sick and you are unable to identify the reason behind her sickness. While we understand that the diagnosis of her sickness is totally a doctor’s call, as a cat parent it is mandatory for you to know the common feline diseases and how you can prevent them.

  • Feline Rabies

Rabies is a kind of inflammatory infection which affects the brain of your cat. Your kitty can get this disease if it is beaten by another infected animal. A cat infected with rabies might show up the symptoms like involuntary muscle movement, frothy saliva, aggressiveness, and excitability. As there is no permanent cure to this fatal disease, it is always advised to keep your cat indoor for the maximum time, so that it does not come in contact with other animals who are carrying this disease.

  • Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV)

It is a serious disease which affects your cat’s immune system  and slowly lead to different types of secondary illness. It can be passed from one cat to other via blood, saliva or, in some cases via feces or urine. Your cat may get tumors or it might start feeling lethargic or experience sudden change in weight. It can also cause your kitty’s gums bleeding. To prevent your cat from developing this disease, make sure she is given the corresponding vaccination.

  • Renal Failure

It is mainly a kidney disease which mostly affects older cats. But sometimes it is seen in the kittens born with weak kidneys. Your cat can get this disease due to shock, trauma, blockages and infections. But acute renal failure can occur if your kitty consumes something poisonous. If you find that your cat has started identifying its toys and food by smelling instead of seeing, or if it has got cloudy eyes, you should consult a veterinarian immediately.

There are some other diseases like Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Panleukopenia which often attack the health of cats. However, for some of these diseases vaccines are already available in the market and one can also order these cat vaccines online. It is mandatory to keep your kitty under constant observation and see if there is any major change in their behavior if you want to save them from fatal diseases.
